PHILOSOPHY

PROCESS

Each Opelle handbag is individually handcrafted in small batches in our Toronto studio. We work with an evolving production system composed of a mix of traditional & original processes developed through experimentation. By keeping our production hands-on and in-house we are able to ensure that each bag is a specimen of perfect quality, created ethically and realised exactly as intended.

OUR LEATHER

Opelle works with local distributors to source tanneries in Italy (Pebbled Cowhide), Germany (Lambskin) and Spain (Metal) All of our leathers are a by-product of the food industry and are tanned using low-impact processes with a minimum of chemical processing. Each hide is hand-selected for softness, quality & character. Special attention is paid to the individual character and natural elegance of each hide. OUR LEATHERS ARE UNRIVALLED in the industry for their unique combination of softness and durability.

DISCLAIMER

Opelle pieces are handcrafted exclusively from top-grain natural leathers. Skins are hand-chosen and hand-cut to maintain their individual character. Slight variations in texture, form and color add to the unique natural luxury of each piece.

ABOUT THE DESIGNER

Toronto-Native Amy Malcolm spent her formative years studying Art, finding Zen on the dancefloor and hitch hiking across the country before turning her attention to leather in 2009 when she was unable to find a genuine leather bag that suited her unconventional urban mores. Her multi-disciplinary background of formal and non-formal training in Sculpture, Industrial design, Textiles & Women’s Wear is complimented by self-taught skills and techniques developed through years of experimentation. Amy maintains a close working relationship with each stage of Opelle’s creative process from conception to delivery ensuring that each bag is a true reflection of her personal vision.
